IT STARTS WITH KNOWING

"Lead me from death to life, from falsehood to truth; lead me from despair to hope, from fear to trust;  lead me from hate to love, from war to peace. Let peace fill our heart, our world, our universe."

From the Hindu Upanishads, by Satish Kumar

I read an email from a friend this morning that spoke about training dogs with love. It spoke about using positive thoughts when speaking to your pets. For example, instead of screaming "Get down", say softly but firmly, "Paws on the floor". What a great lesson for people as well. When something bothers you, can you express it without heat in your voice?

There is so much going on in our world today that I find unsettling. I could start shouting about all of these things until my voice becomes hoarse, but would that solve any problems-- probably not. Instead I can start my day with mindful practice. Instead of "Paws on the floor", "Mind stayed on Peace." The problems are still around me, but softly and firmly, what steps may I take to be the "Peace that passes understanding"? If I am not at peace within, how can I inspire it in the world around me? I must keep my mind stayed on justice, freedom, equality for all. Might that require speaking out about it--Yes. Might that require writing letters, or peacefully demonstrating--Yes.

Bottom line is, everything that happens in our life starts within. If something bothers us and we say or do nothing about it, the problems continues, perhaps festers into something bigger. This applies to health, friends and family relationships, job situations, and the world at large. Express yourself softly but firmly. It starts from within, take a few deep breaths and then let your thoughts be known.

"The time to do anything is in the now moment. Now is the time for health, happiness, prosperity and loving relationships."

Life is sometimes about being the voice of reason. What you have to say could be the catalyst to a brilliant idea. Be bold, speak up!
