STICKING PINS
"Don't be a prisoner of ignorance. The world is larger, far more complicated, and far more wonderful that ignorance allows."
Maya Angelou, --Rainbow in the Sky
Do you ever feel like a pin cushion and life seems like you are getting poked and prodded from all directions; late at night, in the morning, constantly making you feel like it will never stop? Prices rising, making it feel like you are having a bad dream? Despite the insanity that is going on around us we need to set the radio dial on something we would like to be happening, and then get involved in some way. "We may not be able to do great things", but as Mother Teresa would say, "we can do little things with great love."
How are you doing in your own family? Do you discuss what is going on in our world and think of how to help people who are affected by the political changes flying left and right? Urge your congressman to stand up for democracy, send a letter or postcard to their office. Donate to organizations who support those who are going through difficulties, loss of jobs, or being forced to leave their offices with five minutes to accomplish the task. Whatever happened to Lady Liberty's, "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddle masses yearning to breathe free."
Pope Paul referred to us as, "A nation filled with Immigrants." So often we forget that Native Americans were the first inhabitants of what we now call, The United States of America. It was Irish, Italian, Scandinavian and other cultures that came together to make American what it is, a blend of all nations coming together for a better life. It seems like our history is being white-washed. We remember the past to see flaws in they way things were managed, and we change those things that need changing.
I may seem like I am on a soapbox, but I see a great value in the ideas and inventions that have been brought to our country from so many places around the world. So, do your part to embrace all individuals, to be kind and caring to all who cross your path. As Dolly Parton says, "We are not meant to judge others, that's God's work." Let Love lead the way. Namaste.
"Kindness, compassion, and wisdom. For His Holiness the Dalai Lama, who has always based his daily activity--whether religious, philosophical, or political--on these principles, these are not just empty words."
--From Dalai Lama's, Little book of Inner Peace.
Whether you think the world is wonderful, or in need of work, the only ones who can change or maintain anything are wise people working in love and collaboration. If change is what you see is needed, get a group together and go for it.
Love and Light,
Rev Sandy Smith
