WHAT TEASURES DO YOU HAVE RIGHT UNDER YOUR NOSE?
"Your present mind is cause to your world of effects. Everything that happens to you happens because of you...Already in your mind are the right ideas seeking your right thinking to become cause to your inner and outer happiness."
Raymond Charles Barker, The Power of Decision
Through the years, are there things you have collected? I have a curio closet that is filled with things that I have collected through the years. There are pill boxes that are shaped as Seattle's Space tower, a cottage, a teapot, to mention a few. I've collected All sorts of wooden and ceramic otters and dragonflies, and many more interesting things. They are there in the cabinet and how often do I look at them and remember when and where I collected them? Not often enough. My great niece came to visit, and she was drawn to the cabinet and looked at all the items with curiosity and wonder.
In our daily lives there are time when you may feel a little low, a little blue. Are there people and experiences you have had, that have made you feel happy and loved? Are there activities that you would like to do, or a cause you would like to get involved with? As Raymond Charles Barker said in the opening quote, "Already in your mind are the right ideas seeking your right thinking to become cause to your inner and outer happiness."
I remember hearing Rev. Dr. Dennis Merritt Jones saying, When referring to the 23rd
Psalm, "Yeah though I walk through the Valley of the Shadow of death'...You see that it says, I walk through. It doesn't mean that I stop and build a condominium." We have the power of decision to decide what we want to think and to do, and to change our attitude. Winston Churchill once said, "Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference."
Look for the treasures that might be right under your nose.
"The purpose of life is not to be (just) happy. It is to be useful, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well."
Ralph Waldo Emerson
When you are feeling blue, allow yourself to feel the sadness, and then take stock, what are the treasures that be uncovered? Talk to someone you can trust, share your feelings. Get some help if you are having a hard time uncovering the treasures that are right under you nose.
Love and light,
Rev Sandy Smith
