WRITE TO YOUR HEART'S DELIGHT
Books ARE a form of political action. Books are knowledge. Books are reflection. Books change your mind.
Toni Morrison
I find it very interesting that there is such a discussion about banning books floating around in the news. Just a few days ago was a spot in "Sixty Minutes" about Buford, South Carolina. They came up with a list of 97 books that should be banned in public schools. The discussion led to choosing a panel of numerous readers, from librarians to mothers, church leaders to teachers. from all levels of education. They formed book reading circles and read all of the books. They narrowed it down to five that they thought should be banned.
It is my belief that a well-rounded intelligent person should sink there teeth in to a wide variety of books to learn more about life and the history of all nations, countries and the accomplished people who live in them. This includes events and real live examples; real life histories of the people, animals, and plant life that is a part of the planet we live on. When we do this, we can understand and share the many things we have in common, and the delightful differences that are unique to various people and cultures. Reading is something that all curious and intelligent people thrive on.
Reading and writing are stellar skills that my family introduced me to at an early age. As an adult I realize what a gift it was to have older sibblings and parents who took part in my learning. Rich or poor, it makes a difference in a person's life.
"All great authors draw from the same resource, the human heart."
Maya Angelou
What sotry is in you that longs to be told? It might be a hardship you went through in life, but are alive and able to reflect upon it; a glorious story about love, danger, the power of peace; perhaps it is poetry,
essays, or the story of a country and some of the struggles that took place in it. Think about saving your thoughts by writing them down to share them with other people in your community or in the world.
Happy writing, even if it is just a daily journal that you start with, think of the ideas you may come up with.
Love and light,
Rev Sandy Smith
