A NEW DAY-A NEW YEAR
January, a time when we are reborn into a new year; a chance to let go of the past and embrace newness. Perhaps the new year seems a little scary, in the news there are new events occurring daily that make us fearful of what may happen next. War, finances, the price of groceries, the security of social security, health care costs, having a safe place to live--all of the uncertainty, the kaleidoscope of what may happen, looms before us.
But also take a look at the way these challenges are being brought out into the open. Light is being shed on so many inequities. Out of the chaos comes compassion, caring for others, people standing up for what they believe is right. It's a new day, it's a new dawn. Start with your own community, who can you help, how can you share talents with neighbors. Where can you share your ideas for a better future. Social media may highlight what is wrong with the world, but the truth is, there is so much more good going on. Do your part in helping places like "Street Teens", that provide services for homeless teens; give to local foodbanks; volunteer at a homeless center; volunteer at an animal shelter, or help create a community garden. concentrate on what can be done, and be a part of that positive action.
Each day, of each month, of each year can be a new day to be reborn into. If something happens and you are unhappy about it, let it go, start anew. This is a new day, that's why they call it , "the present". May every present day count.
"History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage, need not be lived again." --Maya Angelou
Make every day count, Be the bright spot in the world that helps to erase the darkness!
