JUST CURIOUS
"Life follows you, and sometimes it catches up to you.
Make good use of the present moment and radiate life."
Sandra Lindsey Smith --Life's Garden of Weekly Wisdom.
Very often, around any holiday, I think about how quickly the years pass by, and all the things I have and haven't done. When I start to feel sad about some of what I didn't do, I try to remember the joy of what I did accomplish, the friends I have made, and the places I have been to--it far outweighs the sadness.
The picture above is of a curio cabinet in my dining room. Some people call it a hutch, but I prefer the term curio cabinet. I wondered where the term "curio" came from, and I discovered in was a term from the 1600's. Cabinet of curiosities, or wonder room were the original terms. My curio reminds me of some of the adventures I have been through: pill cases from cities across the United States that I have visited, snow globes, otter figurines, a variety of decorative eggs, and a teacup with violets on it. All remind me of friends, family and even strangers who have crossed my path in so many vibrant ways.
"Curio" to me, also means curiosity; being curious about other people and places. What does curiosity mean to you? Does it mean meeting someone new and learning about what their life has been like? Does it mean actively exploring topics you are interested in? Does it mean looking for things that make your life more valuable, like a meaningful faith tradition, volunteering in a local charity, or working for a cause you believe in? Be curious, it's a good place to start.
Are you curious about what you see and hear in your day-to-day life? If something you hear sounds interesting do you find out more about it? What if it sounds like something outlandish, do you investigate to see if it really is the truth? For me, kindness, peace, and truth are what life is truly about.
Love, Light, and Curiosity,
Rev Sandy Smith
