A GOOD NIGHT'S SLEEP

"The Spirit within me is in perfect rest. The center of my being is quiet and poised. I let my inner spirit fill my whole being with peace and stillness. With this word, I now relax in body and mind. I let Divine tranquility fill me."

Ernest Holmes,                    --The Essential Ernest Holmes

To sleep or not to sleep, that is the question. Whether to toss and turn, slumber deeply,  ruminate about something you could have done differently yesterday, or musing about the excitement of a new adventure in the day to come -- all of these are definite possibilities. But, what to do about dropping into a sound sleep?

For me, when I can't sleep, it is usually because something is on my mind, something I need to work out, or something I don't want to forget to do. From an early age I have gotten in the habit of keeping a journal by my bed, to write about what is on my mind. I pick up my pen and let the word's spill out. After my thoughts are noted, I say an affirmative prayer and release my words, knowing that I can let go and let God. And if I am still awake, I pick up a good book and read.

But what about you? Sometimes whatever may be worrying you, or keeping you up, may need to be big enough to be shared with a trusted someone else. Very often this lightens the load, and can help you shed light on your problem. I have been through a divorce, and survived colon cancer, and sharing my feelings with others has made a world of difference.

"“When you share your feelings, you can get the comfort and support you need to feel better. The next time you feel sad or hopeless, who do you feel safe talking to about your feelings (family, friend, school counselor or social worker)? When and how can you talk to them?”

― Lauren Martin, Sadness is a Dark Cloud

Are you a person who asks for help when you need It? Do you sense when a friend or family member needs someone to talk to? Be willing to listen deeply and share from the heart,. Ask a few questions if you sense someone is troubled, and give the same advice to yourself, ask for help when you need it. Sharing is caring, and it might work wonders for a good night's sleep.
