JUST BREATHE

"The last of the human freedoms--to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's own way."       Victor Frankl

Yesterday at The Las Vegas Center for Spiritual living, Rev Cheryl gave a wonderful talk, on remembering to breathe. She shared that pausing to breathe, brings our body and mind to the present moment; that fear, anger, or anything that brings us angst, can often be lessened, by taking a calming deep breathe. Another key point that she reminded us of, is that we don't breathe alone, Spirit and community are always there, if we take a deep breathe to remember that.

As a young child, I was very shy. I often had things I wanted to say, but I wasn't always brave enough to share my thoughts. Somewhere along the way, I grew into finding what I enjoyed, theatre. I found other people who enjoyed some of the same things that I enjoyed doing. That's when I found my family of loving friends, and then it became hard to shut me up. Through the years I found that there were many times in my life, that just stopping to breathe, made all the difference. That really helped me to learn to lovingly respond to a situation, rather than angrily react.

When It comes to faith, and finding a faith tradition /teaching that resonated with me, I found that same feeling of family when I entered a Center for Spiritual Living. I now know that when challenges come along for me or for anyone I am speaking with, the best thing I can do is to breathe, and that the best advice I can share with others is the same, just breathe.

"Just because something in your life seems set in stone doesn't mean it has to be a permanent reality."

Are there times when you are so frazzled that you think you might just explode? If you can think about taking the time to just breathe, you might just calm down enough to think more clearly. If that doesn't get you thinking more clearly, ask one of the many Practitioners at our Center to say an affirmative prayer for you.

Love, Light, and Laughter,

Rev Sandy Smith
