MAKING A DIFFRENCE AND IMPACTING THE WORLD
"You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What you do makes a difference and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make."
Jane Goodall
I love this quote by Jane Goodall. Jane was always a curious person. When she was a young child her mother was looking all over their property to find where Jane had gotten to. She was finally found inside the henhouse underneath the chickens to see how an egg was laid. This curiosity has continued through her experience, observing life, and becoming a zoologist, primatologist, and anthropologist. She is probably is best known for her work with primates in Africa. Roots and Shoots is a program she founded for children to learn more about plants and animals. She was named a United Nations Messenger of Peace.
I speak of her today, because she is an inspiring difference maker in this world. At 91 she is still growing strong. When she was in her teens, her mother encouraged her to study in fields that were almost entirely male dominated. She was fortunate to have parents who observed and fed her curiosity. Not everyone has that kind of support from parents. That's where we come in to make a difference.
When we see children, friends, relatives, who are unsure of themselves, we can be their cheer leaders, encouraging them to follow their dreams. We can easily and effortlessly let them know how important they are, and that the talents they possess can make a difference in the lives of others, and the world. By supporting others ideas as well as our own, we add to the tapestry of this world. We create a world that works for all.
How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of the weak and strong. Because someday in your life you will have been all of these.George Washington Carver
Learn more about the things that interest you. Always be open to finding someone in the field you are interested in, to give you insight into her/his journey to success. Be the person who gives encouragement to others. You make a difference. We never know what impact we have on others.
